About the citadel marines

Semper fi society

The Semper Fi Society (SFS) was created in order to provide Citadel cadets and Marines with the opportunities to enhance their development as future Marine Corps Officers and leaders. The SFS exposes members of the NROTC Unit, The Citadel to life in the Marine Corps by organizing and funding various events to include the Marine Corps Birthday Ball, Mess Night, and the annual Bulldog Challenge.

purpose of the bulldog challenge

The Bulldog Challenge is hosted by The Citadel's Semper Fi Society and provides the community with a unique and challenging physical endurance course. This event links the Charleston community and surrounding area with The Citadel’s NROTC Unit, while also providing a means by which active duty service members and ROTC units across the country can come together for a friendly competition. The course is run by a four-person or two-person team that tests the physical and mental toughness of each team member. Measuring just over six miles, the race includes the Marine Corps obstacle course, portions of the Combat Fitness Test, a simulated CASEVAC, getting wet and sandy, and much more! All are encouraged to come out, including beginners, fitness enthusiasts, and suckers for pain!
Funds raised by the Bulldog Challenge contribute to annual scholarships given out to deserving cadets or Marines within the NROTC Unit, in addition to the funding of time-honored traditions such as Mess Night and the Marine Corps Birthday Ball.
